Although it was a whirlwind trip with little down time to enjoy paradise, it was very worthwhile. My first morning of the conference (Sunday) began with a President's Fireside Chat, an invitation-only session where a few chapter lead- ers from around the country met with ALA leadership to share their thoughts on the Association's future goals. After hitting the conference registration area, I headed to the Chapter Leaders Idea Exchange where Chapter Presidents shared ideas, asked questions about chal- lenges, reviewed their own initiatives, and discussed ways we can help strengthen the Association together. The afternoon was spent at the Region 4 Council Meeting where our Regional Council Representative, Debby Reeves, and I heard all about the great things in store for the coming year. The outgoing Region 4 Director, Toni Beasley handed off the gavel to Greg Madden. Joining Greg as host of the Region 4 Council Meeting were our own Brenda Homan (Region 4 Communications Officer) and Shari Doidge (Region 4 Business Partner Relations Officer). They were also joined by Andrea Everage (Region 4 Education Officer) and outgoing Region 4 Projects Officer, Teresa Douglas. We heard about ALA's 2012 Ambassador Recruitment Campaign (which you will hear more about in the near future) and the Region 4 Conference in Denver this October. Be sure to read Debby Reeves' Region 4 Council Meeting article elsewhere in this issue. The next three and a half days were packed with more than 75 educational sessions, a CLM idea exchange, the Business Partner Expo, and plenty of networking opportunities. I filled each day's agenda with as much as possible. We even had several pleasant after- hours "sessions". Monday evening was our Dallas Chapter Dinner at Hatsuhana Japanese Restaurant with 30 Chapter members and their guests in attendance. Tuesday was filled with a variety of happy hours, dinner and social gatherings hosted by our Continued on page 2 I had the great fortune to start off my year as Chapter President by attending ALA Annual Conference & Exposition in Honolulu, Hawaii.
