Dempsey, CLM Washington, D.C. Sidley Austin LLP sdempsey@sidley.com With the onset of spring and the ALA Annual Conference it is that time of year when the transition of regional officers and more importantly chapter officers occurs. I wish I could visit all your chapters and thank each of the outgoing presidents for all their hard work and efforts this past year. I hope that it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience for you. I also hope you will stay engaged in your chapters as you have now acquired some valuable knowledge and experience that will be a great value to your chapters. I would also encourage you to consider additional leadership opportunities at the regional or national level. I also want to thank the other chapter board members who are moving on to other chapter positions or may be completing board terms. Your support of your chapter president and your participation helps make your chapter a success. And for you incoming presidents, the Region 4 Team wants to thank you for your commitment to your chapter and for having the courage to step up to the task. This will be an interesting and rewarding year for you. I have had the opportunity to serve in several ALA leadership positions and I have always found it to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience. I hope you will enjoy it as well. Please remember that your regional team is here to help you (we are not from the government), so please do not hesitate to call on us. One quick reminder, Chapter Leader Institute will be this July in Atlanta so I hope you will be able to send as many board members as possible.
